BRACKETS:
Wrestlers are placed on brackets by random draw. Regional champions will be paired against a Regional 4th placer from a different region. Regional 2nd placers will be paired against a Regional 3rd placer. Regional draws will vary by weight class and division. Brackets will be posted on NC Mat.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
8 mats will be used.
*FIRST ROUND:* All 3A first round matches in all weight classes will be wrestled first and all 8 mats will be used. As the 285 lbs matches for 3A are finished, the 4A first round matches will begin with the 103 lbs weight class and all the 4A matches in all weight classes will be wrestled. As the 285 lbs matches for 4A are finished, the 1A/2A matches at 103 lbs will begin. It is expected that each class will take approximately one and a half hours to complete, but there is no pre-determined time for the start of the 4A and then the 1A/2A matches. Understanding that some matches may move faster than others, it will be the responsibility of coaches and wrestlers to make sure they monitor the progress of matches in the previous class. (*In 2009, the 4A will wrestle first, followed by the 1A/2A, and then the 3A.)

*FIRST ROUND CONSOLATION THROUGH 3RD/5TH PLACE MATCHES:* All eight mats will be used for these rounds with the following assignments for mats.

Mats 1-2: Used by 1A/2A only
      Mat 3: Shared by 1A/2A and 3A
Mats 4-5: Used by 3A only
      Mat 6: shared by 3A and 4A
Mats 7-8: Used by 4A only

*This set-up allows spectators to choose one section of the arena to sit throughout the tournament.

You will be able to follow along with where a certain wrestler will be by the match number and assigned mat number (on the brackets in the program and also posted on the walls next to the brackets).

*CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS* Three mats will be used for the finals and will be arranged on the floor in a triangular manner. The arrangement will allow spectators to remain in the same seating section they have used throughout the tournament.

The 1st place championship matches will be wrestled in the evening session, beginning at 6:00 p.m., following the Parade of Champions.

Wrestlers placing 3rd-4th and those wrestling in the championship finals will be included in the Parade of Champions and are asked to remain in warm-ups for the parade. 3 mats will be used for the championship finals - all the 103 finals will be wrestled, then 112, etc.

AWARDS:
The top four finishers in each weight class will be included in the awards presentations and are asked to remain in warm-ups for the awards ceremonies. Coaches of state champions are invited to present the awards to all wrestlers in their champion’s weight class and classification. Please report to the awards table area and let the staff know you would like to participate. You will be asked to present medals to all four places.  (The presentation of awards will be on the opposite end of the arena from the head table, same location as in the 2007 tournament)

As the championship matches are completed wrestlers will be called to the awards stand by weight classes to receive their awards. The first awards presented will be to the 103 lbs placers after the conclusion of the 112 lbs matches. To try to save time, THREE awards stands will be used this year, one per division.

TEAM/COACH/MANAGER ADMISSION:
ADMISSION FOR COACHES- Each school’s principal will be required to fax the form to the NCHSAA office a prioritized list of coaches (maximum of 4) that his/her school will send to the tournament.  Wristbands will be given based on the number of qualifiers:  1-3 = 2 wristbands; 4-7 = 3 wristbands; 8 or more = 4 wristbands.  Coaches will be admitted only by their wristbands which will be in their packet.  The wristband will allow entrance into the coliseum, onto the arena floor, and the hospitality room.  Wristbands must be secured to the coach prior to entrance into the Coliseum.  Coaches will wear the same wristband 2 days. Loose or damaged wristbands will not be accepted for admittance into the designated areas.

Coaches without a wristband will be admitted by his NCCA membership card or will have to pay to enter.  NOTE:  Coaches’ families will not be allowed to enter using his NCCA membership card.

Non-qualifying team members will be admitted as a group for $3.00 PER DAY at the ticket window. HOWEVER, they must be accompanied and identified by a coach from their school.  You must make arrangements to have a coach available to bring them through the pass gate, or they will have to pay full admission price. Non-Qualifying wrestlers will enter through the general admission doors, NOT the wrestler’s entrance.  They will not be permitted down to the practice/weigh-in area or the competition floor area.  ABUSE of this procedure will jeopardize continuation of the $3.00 special allowance.
Participating wrestlers not advancing to the second day of competition must use their weigh-in cards for free admission into the Coliseum on Saturday. These wrestlers will not be given a wristband and they will not be permitted down to the practice/weigh-in area or the competition floor area.

ONE student team manager will be admitted free if he/she arrives with the team.

Mat Maids/Cheerleaders must pay.

WEIGH-INS:
Weigh-ins: 7:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday. All schools must be present at the start of weigh-ins.

ALL bags, including wrestlers’ bags, will be searched upon entering the coliseum.  Therefore, to expedite the weigh-in process, wrestlers should leave bags, etc, on the bus, or in the lobby.  After the completion of weigh-ins wrestlers will have time to get their bags and allow security to search them before re-entering the coliseum.

Each qualifier must have his weigh-in card in hand to get into the weigh-in area as well as having it with him as he steps on the scales. Access to the weigh-in area is the stairwell at Section 116.  If the wrestler makes weight, he MUST leave his weigh-in card with the official prior to leaving the weigh-in area.

Qualifiers will receive a hand stamp in the weigh-in area.  This hand stamp allows access to the competition floor area and practice/weigh-in area. If at any time this stamp is rubbed, sweated or washed off, the wrestler must see the security personnel at the Stairwell at Section 116 or tournament officials in the Lobby to be re-stamped.

To expedite the weigh-in process:
1. Please bring any appropriate medical documentation (form is on the NCHSAA website) with you in regards to communicable skin disorders
2. Make sure wrestler has already shaved, cut his hair and nails and has already stripped down to his shorts before he gets to the scales.

Weigh-ins will be conducted by weight class, not by teams.
