BILLY GREENE AND JOHN CHRISTIAN WIN CAA TITLES, QUALIFY FOR NCAA's
Campbell secures highest team finish ever

FAIRFAX, VA, March 4, 2000 ... James Madison had six individual champions
and rolled to a record-breaking second straight team championship in front
of a crowd of 387 at the 2000 Colonial Athletic Association Wrestling
Championships Saturday at George Mason University's John Linn Memorial
Gymnasium.

The Dukes placed all 10 of their wrestlers in the semifinals and seven in
the finals en route to 108 points, which broke the CAA Championships record
for points. George Mason had set the mark with 101.5 points in winning their
third of four CAA titles in 1997. James Madison's six
individual champions also set a CAA Championships record, surpassing the
mark of three shared by several teams.

George Mason was the runner-up for the second straight year with 58.5
points. Old Dominion placed third with 54 points, while Campbell (an
associate member of the CAA for wrestling) was fourth with 48 and American
was fifth with 42.5.

Campbell had a pair of monumental victories as the Fighting Camels recorded
their first-ever CAA champions (in four years in the conference) and NCAA
Division I qualifiers (in the 33-year history of the program). Senior Billy
Greene won a 3-1 decision in sudden death over Old Dominion freshman Jake
Cairns at 157, and junior John Christian scored a 5-4 decision over James
Madison junior Sam Maltese at 184.

Freshman Adam Doherty wrestled to second place in his first CAA Tournament,
losing to JMU's Jonathan Huesdash. John Black wrestled back to secure third
place in the heavyweight division, defeating Leevi MacDonald of Old Dominion
2-1. CU's Mike Cox, the Camels 149 representative, place third as well,
with a 6-4 win over Brian Consolvo (JMU). Campbell's Joey Bricker and Abner
Suarez finished fourth.
